Congratulations to The Jill’s for their feature in today’s edition of the Wall Street Journal. The WSJ article, The Battle of the Big Deal, highlights Jill Hertzberg’s expertise in the ever changing real estate business. The Jills’ success stems from their personal contact with, and devotion to their clients, as well as their ever growing international database of high net worth clients, which dates back over 20 years. I am so proud of my mom and Jill Eber, congratulations again!

Versace! Versace! Versace!

5 Oct
The Jills recently marketed and held an auction for the sale
of Miami’s famed Versace Mansion.  On September 17, 2013
the bidding took place at the Versace property under a tent set in
front of the stunning mosaic-tiled pool lined in 24k gold.
There were three primary bidders present at the auction;
Palm Beach club owner Glenn Straubthe, Joe Nakash who is
chairman of Jordache Enterprises, and Eric Trump representing
his father Donald and the Trump brand.

The energy was high as the competing bids volleyed back
and forth toward an intense last moment before Nakash
took the auction.  Going Once! Going Twice! Sold!  When the
gavel went down the entire Nakash party jumped up in celebration.
The Versace Mansion sold for an unbelievable $41.5 million dollars.
It was an epic sale that was covered all over the world.
The Versace mansion is truly a gem of a property.  As a
potential single family home, the Versace mansion sale
broke the recent Miami Beach record of Alex Rodriguez’s
$30 million dollar sale on North Bay Road.

What’s next for for such an iconic property?

The Nakash family owns the Hotel Victor that is located next
door to the Versace Mansion and may turn it into a luxury
boutique hotel or high end retail.  It will be exciting to see
what they do there, hopefully they preserve the
unique character of the property while finding a new
use for it. It was truly a once in a lifetime opportunity to
participate in such a historic sale. Our team is grateful
for all of the support we have received and wish the
new owners all the very best!
In the spirit of Versace press play below!

Authentic Indian Cuisine in Sunny Isles – Copper Chimney

12 Sep

photo 2

In the corner of a Sunny Isles strip mall there is a hidden gem of authentic Indian food that should truly be on everyone’s best of Miami list. Copper Chimney is amazing, hands down the best Indian food in Miami! Copper Chimney specializes in Tandoor (clay oven) dishes. The food is spicy; the kind of spicy where your tongue is burning but you still can’t stop eating because it is so delicious. Unless you like your dishes with a lot of heat, ask for mild. We went for medium, it was almost too hot to handle but with the spice came an irresistible burst of flavor.

photo 1

Copper Chimney is family owned. The owners are gracious hosts who clearly have a lot of pride for the quality of both food and service. Bollywood movies play in the background while patrons feast on simmering dishes, succulent sauces and baskets of fresh naan. Here is a link to Copper Chimney’s menu, check it out before you go because there are over 50 delicious Indian dishes for you to choose from.

For those of you who feel that Sunny Isles is a little out of your way, there is still hope. I was told Copper Chimney plans to open a second location in Downtown Miami, which we are very excited about.

Enjoy!

Let’s Bring Uber to Miami!

11 Jul

new_uber_logoI had heard a lot of buzz about Uber and I am now glad to say that I just had a first-hand experience using the transportation app on a recent trip to New York. I was about to take a cab into the city when my friend Stevie suggested that I use Uber, he said “Uber is paramount to the invention of the wheel in terms of an advance in modern transportation”.  I gladly listened to his advice.  It took less than five minutes to download the app, put in my credit card info and like magic (BAM!) an Uber car appeared.  For those of you who don’t know, Uber is an incredible taxi/car service which fully functions via an app.

This is how Uber works:

UberPPT

  • When you open the Uber app, you choose between a taxi, a black car, or an SUV.
  • The base price, price per mile and price per minute will then be displayed.  The app will also give you a price quote based on your destination.
  • Uber uses GPS to show your location as well as the closest car option.  Based on your car choice and location, it will give you a fairly accurate time estimate of the driver’s arrival.
  • Uber will then display a picture of the driver you choose along with his/her rating (five stars being perfect) so you know exactly who is coming.
  • Should you need to contact the driver, you have the option to either call or text message the driver.
  • Once the driver is on his way, you can watch as a small car inches towards your location on the map.
  • A text message alerts you that your driver has arrived.
  • The best part comes next: When you reach your destination, simply exit the car and your credit card is charged the fare + 20% tip.  You do not need to sign anything, make change, or even show your credit card.
  • Immediately after the trip has ended, you will receive a text message receipt of the exact amount charged.

As a result from the rating service, the drivers are all very courteous and pick you up in extremely clean cars.

Here is the bad news.  Although Uber wants to come to Miami, our current taxi/car service regulations do not allow for the service to operate here.  I say if it is good enough for NYC and if it is good enough for San Francisco, then let the service operate and have the market decide!  The taxi situation in Miami is a disaster, particularly at peak times and busy weekends which is exactly when Uber is most useful.  It is well known that Miami has a bad reputation for dirty taxis and equally as many rude drivers.  Uber is the yelp of transportation and forces accountability on a broken industry.

This is not just a blog post about a great service but a call to action for anyone in Miami who has ever waited over an hour on a rainy night for a taxi, for anyone who has ever had to walk 30 block on New Year’s Eve and for anyone who has sat in a foul-smelling cab with no AC and a rude driver.  Please follow Uber Miami on twitter and support them in their quest to bring this great service to Miami.

Sincerely,

DH

Best Nail Salons of South Beach

Best Nail Salons of South Beach
Guest Blog by Amanda Chamberlain

20130613-074002.jpgFinding a great nail salon is often a series of trial and error visits to the salons you see driving down the road or the salon mentioned by the lady waiting with you in the Starbucks line. In my experience many people settle for an “OK” nail salon. Here on South Beach it can seem like an endless search but we are actually lucky enough to have a few good salons out there, and I would know because I’ve tried most of them. When I rate a salon I am judging it on 3 things: cleanliness, staff and how happy I am with the final product.

126664_54_bThe best manicure on South Beach is at The Standard Spa. It doesn’t matter which technician you use (a strong testament to the quality of the salon) everything is very clean and I found the spa environment super relaxing. My manicures at the Standard seem to resist chipping longer than anywhere else on South Beach and they do a very good job. It is more expensive but if you really want to treat yourself to a superb mani then you will likely find the $30 worth it.
433928261_640My second favorite manicure on South Beach is over at the Sean Donaldson salon. I considered my self lucky when I found this nail salon directly across from Macy’s. At first glance it would appear to be a hair only salon, but that is not the case! The salon has a very bright, clean, minimalist atmosphere (which I love) and their manicurists are really spot on. Reasonably priced at $17 for a manicure, Sean Donaldson is a great spot to book on a weekly basis.

20130613-080309.jpgLace Nail Lab seems to be the most popular salon on the beach. It’s bright pink interior and very sociable staff make you feel like you are in a salon straight out of the Hairspray movie, it really is a lot of fun and a unique experience. They have a fabulous boutique in the front of the store that always has something (usually a candle) I will end up taking home with me. My only issue with Lace is that it is always busy and I feel rushed to leave with my nails wet, which means if I’m lucky I will make it 15 minutes before I smudge up the polish.

20130613-075118.jpgCanyon Ranch is a bit further up North Beach but they have a great manicure and hands down the best pedicure I have ever had in my life (and they are consistently that good)! Again it does not matter which technician you use, I have been blown away each time I go and I do go often. They also have a great environment and always use a new set of filing tools (bonus points on cleanliness) for each customer. At Canyon they offer to send you off with the filing kit and the bottle of polish you used during your service.

I hope these suggestions help a few people out! If I missed any great nail salons please comment here about it, we are all in this search together.
Yours Truly,
-Amanda Chamberlain

Best Slice of Pizza in South Beach

7 May

20130613-083840.jpg

If there is one food I pride myself as an expert with, it has to be pizza! During my college days, I even wrote an in depth research paper on the history of pizza. Although NYC has us beat on the best slice, Miami Beach does have some great options!

  • Image
Bella Napoli Pizzeria is a Hertzberg family favorite. Since 1980 Bella Napoli has been bringing in the locals and it’s a known hang out for Miami Beach police officers and south beach locals. It’s a delicious go-to hole in the wall spot, family owned and operated. I like their pizza and they have a good chicken cacciatore but the real highlight is their minestrone soup, they make it from scratch. Plus the pizza seems to travel well with delivery. So that’s Bella Napoli, nothing fancy, plastic checkered table cloths and that kind of thing.
  • Image
Piola, really good salads. Cool place to eat. Have a glass of wine and a pizza. Their pies are thin, crispy and come right out of the wood burning oven. The pizza is best eaten at the restaurant as it doesn’t seem to travel very well. Maybe because it’s so thin? Who knows, but it is good!
  • Image
I also like Pizza Fusion. Similar to Piola with good salads and GREAT pizza that also does not travel well… at all. However, on the plus side they only use organic ingredients and even have a gluten free option!
  • Image
Primo’s south of fifth is a Miami Beach original and is open until 5am on the weekends. Primo’s boasts that their pizza is a “Product of Brooklyn” and the big (greasy) New York style slices are great.
  • Image
Pizza Rustica first opened on Washington Avenue and has now grown to a couple of locations nationwide. Not my style but I have to put it on the list just because they have such a large cult following. You’ll find square pieces done in an almost Chicago like style. Pizza Rustica is open nearly 24 hours and seems to be enjoyed by locals and tourists alike all day (and night) long.
  • Image
Lucali is a very new addition to the pizza scene, recently opening a second location straight from Brooklyn to Miami Beach’s growing Sunset Harbour area. Very cool décor, cool vibe, cool place, but that is an expensive pie! It’s a 27 dollar pizza and an extra three dollar charge for each topping so I think I ended up with a 33 dollar pizza. It was a pretty good pizza and I enjoyed it but the jury is still out on this one.
  • This last spot to make the list isn’t exactly on South Beach but if you are up to a short drive, Anthony’s Coal Fire Pizza is hands down the best pizza in Miami. It’s crispy and can be complimented with great sides, great salads and they make amazing baked chicken wings…the chicken wings are really really good, on par with the pizza. I don’t think they deliver but they do take out. Perfect Sunday night kind of spot.

Enjoy your new found pizza joints and as always please leave comments and suggestions, I will be glad to see them!
